Sandra Gallacher began life in Maidens, Ayrshire and my talent in Art and Design was encouraged by Bill Lockhart’s Department at Carrick Academy, Maybole. This talent was again fostered of Gray’s Carpet Company by senior colleague, Helen Turner, PAI, now one of Scotland's most acclaimed artists.
Marriage to farmer/rally driver Drew Gallacher led to a busy life on the farm and artistic ambitions had to be sidelined with the arrival of her children, Kim and Andrew.
After a serious accident which only the efforts of a dedicated physiotherapist led to complete recovery, I attended Durham University for 4 years to study physiotherapy and give back to others the chance of the active life it had given me. After 10 successful years specialising in back, neck and sports injuries, I decided to work part time and return to my first love - photography, drawing and painting.
After a year of private commissions and exhibiting in a small showroom in Kilmarnock, I arranged a successful exhibition - 'Ceilidh in Colour' - at Dowhill Country Fayre, sold locally in "The Wave' gallery in Girvan, and my learning curve and confidence soared! Currently I have now also entered pastels in The Waterloo Art Gallery in Stranraer. 'Ceilidh in Colour' ran again 15th - 29th May this year and will be showing again during the Open Golf week at Dowhill Farm, Turnberry, 2 miles away.
My pastels on pets, seascapes, the local countryside, etc are available to be seen - and bought! - at my studio or on the following pages. Click to enlarge thumbnails.
Latest work in progress - the heir in waiting; I am going to call this 'family duo' -
'Generation Gap' - youth ready to fill the paws of the parent one sad day.
